(phone rings, its brion rushton at the record exchange)
brion: "hey holly...i have a question for you. i'll get you a drink for this, i swear."
me: "...what? everything okay?"
brion: "yeah! this guy is here asking about smog albums and i thought you'd know."
me: "...you are calling me about the band smog?"
brion: "yeah! i remembered that you put them on your list the other day."
me: "...oh yeah!"
brion: "what smog do you recommend?"
me: "uumm...i get them confused with seam all the time. that album that starts with something about glacial..."
brion: "...oh yeah, that is seam."
me: "oh. yeah, i guess i don't earn that drink. do you want me to go in there and help you with this purchase? i'll help your customer find the right smog album, i swear."
brion: "where are you?"
me: "neurolux."
brion: "its up to you."
me: "okay, i'll try to make it in."
(phone hangs up, blake is laughing)
me: "should i be considering myself a record exchange employee yet?"
blake: "why havn't they automatically hired you yet?"
so, to answer the question of brion rushton, here are the smog albums i recommend.

also to let it be known brion, there are two different smog projects. this is the more well known one...so hopefully i am hitting on the right smog here...

a river aint too much to love is by far my favorite. i don't know what it is about this album, but it leaves you wanting more...i think anyways. its also rated as 4 out of 5 stars (and has tracks online to hear there if you'd like)

sewn to the sky is great too. the thing that gets me is it is a lot more abrasive. its beautiful though...reminds me sort of the first sigur ros album or the distortions of my bloody valentine's "isn't anything"...yet its not shoegaze, just freaking rough.

julius ceasar i have yet to hear in a long time. i remember liking it. i remember it sounding low budget enough that it made me feel like it was "my" album...and so i related to it on that level.
personally brion, if the guy comes back, i recommend a river aint too much to love. that album was always the one i listened to. i hate when i can't remember titles without covers. i'm a visual learner. i do base books on their cover.
